THE EUROPE RECAP

Back from Europe. We´ve been climbing in Turkey and Greece.  It´s been amazing. Tons of climbing on fantastic limestone and good sends.  It took us a couple of days to re-adjust and get used to the tufas and endless, pure endurance, 50mts climbs. But a couple of days later we were crushing.

Started climbing some 7a´s and 7b´s and then by the end of the week we were already sending some 7c´s and 7c+.
Climbing in Turkey was a great experience.  The place is amazing. Good atmosphere, good people and amazing quality of rock and routes, plus tons of potential for more routes.  And it´s also cheaper than Europe, as a general rule.  For more info about climbing in Turkey, you can either contact us or visit the http://www.climbersgarden.com/  website.
You can also find cheap flights to Antalya, from some places in Europe, at www.condor.com.
Definetely a place to visit and stay for a while.
And then, we took an overnight bus (8hs) to Bodrum. From there a Ferry to Kos (30 min) and then a Ferry to Kalymnos (25min). And we got to paradise.
Climbing in Kalymnos could be the ultimate experience.  This island seems to be designed for climbers.  Amazing rock just minutes away from your studio, with magnificent views and some of the best routes i´ve ever climbed.  Everything by the sea. So when the sun hits the wall, you can just walk down the hill and lay down at the beach and dive into the water. What else do you want ?
You can see how, when climbers get organized, and people are in need of business, things can work.

Kalymnos, has an amazing guidebook, with details for more than 1700 routes and 64 different crags.  Everyone in the island is friendly and welcoming, evnthough they know you are a climber and you will be spending as little as you can, you are there and you are already contributing to the business in the island.  Routes are safe, ver ver very well bolted and anchors are replaced when in need.  The entire community works to make of Kalymnos, a climbing paradise.

We spent a month in Kalymnos. We quickly got into a rutine. 2 days climbing, 1 day rest.  We would sometimes get of the routine and do 1 and 1.  We dedicated most of the climbing days to send as many routes onsight as we could and working on some particular projects.  After some days, we were celebrating our first 8a/13b onsight.  Carolina flashed her first 12b and some days later my 8a+/13c project was finally done.

The time flew and before we could even realize, we were already on a plane heading to Germany for our last week of tourisim, before flying back home.

After this kind of trips, i realize how lucky we are, to be climbers, live a simple life, with no ties and not too many obligations, that allow us to get to amazing places like this and experience some great cultures.

We can´t wait to go back to Kalymnos. For more info about climbing in Kalymnos, you can contact us via email or visit: http://climbkalymnos.com/
Have a great day and good climbs.
